THE ALGORITHM & ARTISTIC INTEGRITY

Peace world, how’s everyone on this Sunday? I woke up feeling super inspired today and I wanted to kick things off with a new blog post. I’m trying to make Sundays my writing day, where I just bust out a few lines to help me process this week’s thoughts, so that I can start fresh on Monday. Here’s a particular topic has been on my mind for a while now. This week I’ve had a multitude of conversations with some artist and creator friends and it seems like all of us creators share one thing in common: We all hate the algorithm. That’s one of the main reasons why I decided to make this blog. I’m currently in the process of finding new channels where I can reach you guys directly, without having to go through a platform that I don’t own and that won’t let me reach a broader audience. There’s no need to sugarcoat it, posting on social media has been a hassle lately. I know that I got to show up every day and make sure I’m present on the interwebs but at the same time it can get frustrating knowing that only a fraction of people will see my stuff, since the collective of human interest is constantly shifting and so does the algorithm. In the end, algorithms are people and what they consume on a daily basis. And this is where it gets sticky: I’m an artist and I make music. I don’t have an interest in switching up my content to go viral for something that does not represent me. But at the same time, I understand that there are some things one can do to “please” the algorithm if you really want to grown on social media. So right now, I’m trying to figure this thing out to the best of my abilities, without having to compromise my art and what I represent. And I want to end this paragraph with a word of encouragement to all my fellow artists, creatives and hustlers: There’s no recipe for what we’re trying to achieve, all we can do is try as many things as possible and show up every day. And if you think about it, it’s a beautiful thing because we get to create our own worlds. Every day we get to choose a new path to walk on, but most importantly, we get to fail and we get to learn from it. Think about it, we get to do what we truly, and sometimes to love something means to suffer for it, and if you’re not willing to suffer and struggle for what you love, you might just not love it as much as you thought. Share your thoughts with me in the comments below and much love to y’all!

A RAP FAN'S DILEMMA

Gang, happy Sunday. NEFEW here and I hope everyone’s well. In recent days a lot of reaction channels on YouTube have been questioning Kendrick Lamar’s contribution to Playboi Carti’s new album “I AM MUSIC”, wondering why Kendrick Lamar, as someone who appears to have strong morals in his music, would even consider working with an artist who allegedly hasn’t been the epitome of morality in some aspects of life. Also, if you haven’t been living under a rock I’m pretty sure that you’ve heard about Ye’s recent tirades on X. Because of this, a lot of people have started to turn their backs on Ye’s music.
I don’t know how you guys feel about separating the artist from the actual human being, but that’s something that I have always done. We’re living in an imperfect world where imperfect human beings do a whole lotta bullshit in their days, and that includes me, so who am I to judge really? I always appreciated artists from opposite sides of the spectrum deciding to get together and make music. In the end, I’m a fan of Hip-Hop culture as a whole. And if you’re claiming to be a hip-hop fan, then you got to embrace all the facets of Hip-Hop. Also, do I feel that Ye is wrong for saying the things he said? Absolutely! But I would never stop listening to his music because in the end, good music is good music. I’ve also never considered not listening to Drake anymore after the battle. Because honestly, I couldn’t care less about what the echo chamber, meaning social media and all these YouTube reaction channels have to say. I always chose to form my own opinion and at the end of the day we’re here for the music, not the gossip. Stay up gang! PEACE!

THE STORY BEHIND MY NEW SINGLE "FOOT DOWN"

Peace world! I thought a lot about having my own blog where I can just write about the things that have been on my mind recently so, here it is! My first official blog entry. Reminds me of when I started my musical journey, trying to get on as many blogs as possible, lmao. Anyways, today I wanted to talk about the story behind my new song “FOOT DOWN”. Those that follow me on social media might know that I’ve recently been to Belgrade, Serbia to work on some music. “FOOT DOWN” is one of the songs that I have created during that time. What inspired me to write the song was a few conversations I had with some of the locals there. What stood out to me was the resilience of the city’s people. Not sure if you’re familiar with Balkan history but the city has endured multiple conflicts and it has been destroyed and rebuilt over 40 times. That was crazy to hear and it was really inspiring, leading to the creation of “FOOT DOWN”. I wanted to make a song about resilience as I can really relate, especially when it comes to being an artist building something from scratch, without a recipe. Often times all we have to succeed is resilience, and I think it has become one of my most important traits as an artist. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my first blog entry. “FOOT DOWN” is out now and you can stream it here.
