Peace world, how’s everyone on this Sunday? I woke up feeling super inspired today and I wanted to kick things off with a new blog post. I’m trying to make Sundays my writing day, where I just bust out a few lines to help me process this week’s thoughts, so that I can start fresh on Monday. Here’s a particular topic has been on my mind for a while now. This week I’ve had a multitude of conversations with some artist and creator friends and it seems like all of us creators share one thing in common: We all hate the algorithm. That’s one of the main reasons why I decided to make this blog. I’m currently in the process of finding new channels where I can reach you guys directly, without having to go through a platform that I don’t own and that won’t let me reach a broader audience. There’s no need to sugarcoat it, posting on social media has been a hassle lately. I know that I got to show up every day and make sure I’m present on the interwebs but at the same time it can get frustrating knowing that only a fraction of people will see my stuff, since the collective of human interest is constantly shifting and so does the algorithm. In the end, algorithms are people and what they consume on a daily basis. And this is where it gets sticky: I’m an artist and I make music. I don’t have an interest in switching up my content to go viral for something that does not represent me. But at the same time, I understand that there are some things one can do to “please” the algorithm if you really want to grown on social media. So right now, I’m trying to figure this thing out to the best of my abilities, without having to compromise my art and what I represent. And I want to end this paragraph with a word of encouragement to all my fellow artists, creatives and hustlers: There’s no recipe for what we’re trying to achieve, all we can do is try as many things as possible and show up every day. And if you think about it, it’s a beautiful thing because we get to create our own worlds. Every day we get to choose a new path to walk on, but most importantly, we get to fail and we get to learn from it. Think about it, we get to do what we truly, and sometimes to love something means to suffer for it, and if you’re not willing to suffer and struggle for what you love, you might just not love it as much as you thought. Share your thoughts with me in the comments below and much love to y’all!
